The simultaneous movement of all axes allows complex contours, freeform surfaces, and sophisticated geometries to be machined efficiently and with excellent surface quality. At the same time, tools can be optimally aligned to the workpiece contour, improving tool life and reducing machining forces.

The generous swivel range of the PICOMAX 550 PRO significantly expands the machine’s range of applications. Combined with the large 500 mm interference circle, there is ample space for fixtures, tools, and workpieces. This allows a wide variety of components to be machined flexibly and with minimal risk of collisions – even in complex 5-axis applications.

Torque drives enable direct, backlash-free power transmission without mechanical gearboxes or additional transmission elements. This ensures high positioning accuracy, smooth motion, and very high dynamics.

Particularly in simultaneous 5-axis machining, torque drives have a positive effect on surface quality, contour accuracy, and process stability.

By eliminating mechanical gearboxes, wear, maintenance effort, and maintenance costs are reduced. At the same time, the direct drive concept supports consistently precise machining.

The machine is consistently designed for simple and efficient operation. The machine concept is arranged so that the operator always has a clear view of the spindle, tool, and workpiece. The swivel bridge is never positioned between the operator and the machining process. The machine is conveniently operated from the front and also allows the tool magazine to be loaded from the front during machining.

Short distances, ergonomic operation, and excellent accessibility simplify daily work and support efficient workflows. This helps reduce setup times and improve cost-effectiveness in day-to-day production.

Even if the machine is upgraded with an automation system later on, unrestricted access to the machine for the operator is maintained. This allows manual and automated manufacturing processes to be combined flexibly.

The PICOMAX 550 PRO is equipped with the modern HEIDENHAIN TNC7 control system, featuring a 19" touchscreen. The control supports both positioning operations and simultaneous 5-axis machining, while offering intuitive operation with a modern touch interface and direct CAM connectivity.

The TNC7 combines graphically supported programming, powerful simulation functions, and high computing performance for demanding precision machining. Modern visualization and programming functions support efficient and process-reliable manufacturing of complex workpieces.

The PICOMAX 550 PRO is equipped with a chain magazine for up to 60 tools. This provides a large number of varying tools directly in the machine – ideal even for complex 5-axis machining operations.

Thus, setup times are reduced, flexibility is increased, and efficient machining of a wide variety of workpieces as well as automated manufacturing processes is supported. The tool magazine can also be conveniently loaded from the front during machining.

Thanks to the intelligently designed FEHLMANN tool management system, tools can be manually added, replaced, or removed from the machine at any time during machining. This allows setup operations to be carried out particularly efficiently without unnecessarily interrupting the machining process.

The machine can be automated at any time. Thanks to the automatic loading door on the right-hand side of the machine, it can easily be connected to automation solutions while the machining area remains freely accessible from the front. This also allows easy retrofitting of automation systems at a later stage.

Depending on production requirements, both pallet handling systems and robotic loading solutions are possible. Standardized or customized automation concepts can be integrated flexibly and retrofitted at a later stage if required.

Control and monitoring are carried out either via the integrated pallet management system or the FEHLMANN MCM™ (Milling Center Manager). This allows automated processes to be managed efficiently, clearly, and reliably – even during long autonomous operating times.
